An insurer engaged us to investigate a high-value motor damage claim where reported collision mechanics did not align with visible vehicle damage.
An insurer received a high-value motor vehicle damage claim following a reported collision on a busy Nairobi road. The claimant alleged significant structural damage requiring full vehicle replacement. Initial review flagged inconsistencies in the damage pattern.
The damage profile did not correspond to the reported impact direction or speed. The incident occurred at night with no independent witnesses initially identified, making physical evidence the primary avenue of investigation.
Field investigators attended the vehicle storage location within 48 hours. A structured damage analysis was conducted, covering impact direction, paint transfer analysis, and comparison with the reported incident specifics. Available CCTV footage from nearby premises was also reviewed and analysed.
The damage profile was inconsistent with the reported collision mechanics. Evidence indicated the vehicle had sustained damage in multiple separate incidents rather than a single event. Paint transfer analysis did not match any third-party vehicle associated with the claimed incident.
The insurer declined the claim on grounds of material misrepresentation. Our evidence report supported the insurer's position through the formal dispute process. The claim was subsequently withdrawn by the claimant without further challenge.
